Giving notice

1. Giving notice

Notice must be given in writing and must be demonstrable. It is possible to give notice by filling in the relevant form at the accommodation office, or over our homepages on the internet.

2. Notice period

When a tenant gives notice the notice period is 1 month (according to the law on tenancy (AHVL)). The one month period is calculated from the last day of the month in which notice was given.

E.g. if you wish to vacate the property by 1.6 and want the last month of your tenancy to be May, you have to give notice during the month of April.

Please notice! Fixed term contract can't be cancelled before the specified ending date.

3. Vacating the property and moving date

The moving date, and the date the property has to be fully vacated, is the first working day following the last day of the last month of tenancy. The keys to the property have to be given to the accommodation office before 12.00.

4. Changing properties and giving notice

When moving from one TOAS property to another, you have to give notice on your existing property. In this case it is only possible to give notice by filling in the relevant form at the accommodation office.

5. Giving notice via our homepages

Giving notice on a car parking space must be done in writing at the accommodation office, and is thus not possible via our homepages.

6. Inventory of the property and returning the deposit

The properties are checked at the time of your move. The superintendents complete inventories of the properties in the last month of tenancy, on all working days falling on 15th–31st day of the month, between 9.00 and 15.00 (please see 'final inspection'). Providing that the tenant has no outstanding debts to TOAS, and that the property is in an acceptable condition, the deposit will be returned in the month following the last month of tenancy to the account specified by the tenant.
