Students applying from abroad for the first time

Spring semester 2012 Applicants (application period 17.10.- 30.11.2012)

Please choose one of the below application alternatives (a.  International or b. Finnish application) and submit only one application.

If you submit two applications, TOAS will choose which one to process.

If you need to make changes to your application later on, contact the housing office by email.

a. International application (Primary)

You may fill in the online application, if you have already been accepted as an exchange/degree student for UTA/TUT/TAMK for spring semester 2012 and you have not lived in Finland during the previous semester.

Please fill in the application carefully and be sure of selecting the right educational institution as we only accept one application per applicant.

When TOAS offers you a room, we will inform you about it via E-mail. If you do not accept the offer, you need to inform us about it via E-mail within a week counted from the day the offer was sent. Otherwise the offer will be treated as a contract. All students will sign a fixed term tenancy with a specified ending date, which may not be ended earlier. All agreements for spring semester will be signed as of 1.1.2012 and they cannot be ended before 31.5.2012. All students can extend their tenancy agreements if needed.

Before any room reservation, you need to pay a fee of 375 euros (refundable deposit 300 euros and non-refundable reservation fee of 75 euros) We will give you more details on the deposit and reservation process in the confirmation E-mail. Deposit payment will be refunded to you once your contract has ended. The room reservations are made in the order of the deposit payments' arrival to our account.

You may not choose your location as we have to make the reservation according to availability. Accommodation will be reserved for you as close to your school as possible.  If all the rooms in the closest possible location have been reserved, TOAS has the right to reserve you accommodation in another location. You may then use the Tampere city bus connections to get to your school.

Furnished locations

One room will include a table, a chair and a bookshelf, and you will have your own bed and mattress. Bring your own bedding (sheets, blanket, pillow and pillow cover) and towels with you or buy them after your arrival. We do not provide any kitchen ware. Student unions of universities may have some “survival kits” available.

Types of rooms

Shared apartment means that each tenant has their own bedroom in an apartment for two to four persons of the same gender, where tenants share the kitchen and bathroom. Double room in a shared apartment means that a tenant shares the bedroom with one other person of the same gender. Shared room means that a tenant may share the bedroom up to four other persons of the same gender (only in the location 155 City).

  • If you apply for “my own room”, you will not share your bedroom with any other person, but may share the common areas.
  • If you apply “together with a friend”, you may share a bedroom with your friend.
  • If you apply for “as low rent as possible”, you may share a bedroom with another person of the same gender.

Please note that the room reservations are made in the order of the deposit payments' arrival to our account and if a room of your wish is not available, TOAS will book you some other available room. Thus, the sooner you pay the deposit, the better chances you have getting the room you wish for.

You may also apply together with Finnish applicants. If you choose this alternative, please print out the Application form, fill it in and post/fax/scan it to the TOAS housing office (contact details). You do not have to pay deposit beforehand and the tenancy agreement will be signed as open ended with one month giving notice period.

Please note that by applying this way, you are applying for unfurnished rooms. You will be put to a queue together with Finnish applicants, where you will wait until the apartment you have applied for is available. TOAS strongly recommends you to apply by using International application.

IMPORTANT: You can fill in only one application: International application OR Finnish application.
